QTS Group recently completed a number of community projects in Stewarton whilst conducting embankment works on the railway.

Staff onsite oversaw the safe rebuilding of a badger sett, whilst workforce development staff from QTS visited Lainshaw Primary School in Stewarton to teach them all about the railway through talks and activities.

Whilst working on the embankment the team discovered a badger sett. To protect both the badgers and the embankment, the badger sett was moved to a location nearby. This involved building and burying a new sett with the aid of an external ecologist.

At Lainshaw Primary, pupils from primary one to seven were given an assembly presentation and a chance to try on PPE. Primary 5 and 6 also took part in various STEM tasks, whilst Primary 7 were given the additional task of creating a post on ‘What is QTS’.

The posters created by pupils were judged by Managing Director, Andy Steel, with the winner’s poster being recreated as an official QTS poster to be displayed within the office.

In addition to this, Primary 6 were invited on a site tour of the works at Stewarton.

Site Manager Paul Rimmer took them to a viewing platform who pointed out the work that goes on around the site. All children were also given mini high viz and offered the chance to ask questions about what they had learned.

QTS were extremely accommodating when we suggested a visit to the site. They kindly organised a viewing platform, helpers to ensure the children arrived safely and a manager to speak to the pupils.
The pupils were provided with an engaging and informative experience, developing a greater understanding of there their local community through their own eyes.

I really enjoyed delivering STEM sessions to the pupils across the school at Lainshaw Primary. The children were so engaged and interested in the work that was being carried out just along from the school. The best part of the sessions was being able to take the Primary 6 pupils along to the site to meet the operational team.
They asked loads of brilliant and relevant questions and our site team were really impressed. This is the best part of the work we do at QTS.
