As part of a 52 hour blockade, the QTS team carried out reactive works on the Settle to Carlisle line. A 35 tonne long reach was utilised to excavate 880 tonnes of failed material.

Following embankment failure, the team carried out extensive monitoring works, meaning that train services were held to a temporary speed restriction of 5mph, causing a series of delays.
After monitoring, the QTS team mobilised on site. A 35 tonne long reach was utilised to excavate the embankment from the railway. A temporary working platform was installed to protect the rail and provide stability for the excavator to carry out the works.
The team removed 880 tonnes of failed material from the embankment using the long reach, which was then emptied into trailers.
QTS RRV’s were used to take the trailers to the compound, where the material was put into wagons and removed to a licensed tip.
Due to the remote nature of the works, a food truck was added to our site compound for operatives to utilise, free of charge.
Soil benches were excavated into the embankment before a geotech separator was used to segregate the soil from the 6G stone. Over 800 tonnes of 6G stone was used and delivered into site via rail.
Another great job delivered by the QTS team.
