Rail contractor, QTS Group, has been working alongside local support organisation Lads & Dads to carry out improvement works at the group’s first allotment in Brackla, Bridgend.
QTS, who have been working on the Llanharan to Bridgend line, reached out to Lads & Dads to offer their help, free of charge, for this project.
Over a three day period, QTS staff took part in an array of activities including building polytunnels, clearing planting areas, removing rubbish and then constructing and painting a shed.
”We cannot thank QTS enough for the brilliant work they have carried out for us – it looks like a brand new area.
The group meets here twice a month and it’s an essential space for older people to get out of their houses and connect face to face – something that’s never been more important since lockdown.

”QTS is always keen to get involved with community initiatives in the areas that we are working within. When we heard about the great work that Lads & Dads do within Bridgend and beyond, we knew we wanted help somehow.
Gary BurnettOperations Director for QTS
Our team has enjoyed the experience of working at the allotment and learning more about the group and how it helps men with their mental wellbeing.
Having the opportunity to carry out positive social value in the community is also a really great thing for our team to be a part of for their own mental health and wellbeing, so we were glad to be of assistance in this project.
”It means a lot to QTS to be able to get out into the communities that we work in and make a difference.

“We help keep communities connected via the work we do on the UK infrastructure, but being able to carry out some social value based work that helps keep people connected through these fantastic projects is invaluable.”
